| I'm moving to Philly. I decided to switch divisions in my company. Previously I was doing marketing strategy consulting but I realized I am not a marketer. Marketing is too much fluff. Too much building fancy slides, conducting SWOT analyses, and using buzz words to sound smart. I am now joining my firm's business development consulting practice. I don't really know much about business development besides that it requires a lot of working with numbers in Excel. A big part of my job will be helping pharma companies conduct valuations of other companies' drugs to inform in-licensing and out-licensing decisions. I have no idea what this means. I figure, if I'm going to try out a whole new field and essentially start from scratch, now is the time. Also, I like to put myself in situations where I have no idea what I'm doing and I'm essentially forced to work hard or fail horribly. I think this is my way of counteracting my lazyness. If it was up to my lazy side, I would wake up around noon everyday, eat cup o noodles, then watch reruns of Everybody Loves Raymond (I have Season 2 on DVD) all day. So back to my new job, the only catch is the position is in Philly. I never thought I would step foot in Philly in my life and it's a pretty drastic change. But then I thought why not? I once heard a man say "Life is simple. You make choices and you don't look back". That quote was from the movie Fast and the Furious 3. Also I have nothing really holding me back in LA that would make it worth passing up a great career opportunity. Also I really like cheesesteak sandwiches. Annnd that my friends was the thought process which has led to my relocation to Philly. | | |
| Hello. Anyone still reading this?
It's been so long since I've written a new blog that it took me 5 minutes to figure out how to create a new entry. Work is crazy. I've been in LA for a few months now and feel like I've seen my friends twice max. Basically all I do during the week is wake up, go to work, come home and eat while I do more work, sleep then repeat. I will stop there for fear of being one of those douches who only talks about how much they work, which I think it is too late for. Life in Encino is ok but there's nothing to do in "the valley". I don't even feel like I live in LA during the week. On a side note, living in the Valley and saying you're from LA is kind of like when people say they live in New York City but actually they live in Jersey. It's probably karma because I used to make fun of my Jersey friends and tell them you're not reaaally from NY! Now look at me, reppin the ENC. At least there was a famous movie named after the city I live in. In yo face JERSEY.
Hopefully more updates to come.

| It's been a long time Xanga. During our break I got a new job and moved twice in the span of 3 months. You, on the other hand have gotten fat and started drinking again. Oh xanga, when will you learn? As most of you know by now I'm moving back to LA. My job wants me to relocate out there for the time being and it has been hectic trying to pack up my apartment last minute. The movers picked up my stuff this morning and my belongings are officially on their way to LA. Instead of shipping half my stuff I'm practically giving it away on craigslist but no one is buying it yet. What's wrong people? Don't you want a fully functional computer desk for $5??? Granted I just posted the ads a day ago but something tells me my ads aren't doing the trick: ----- 20" toshiba TV w/ remote - $20 (Murray Hill)

This is a TV that relies on a revolutionary technology called "cathode ray tube" or CRT technology. I know, I know, you are amazed and haven't seen anything else like it. Well I have good news for you my friend. You can have this amazing piece of technology for the low price of 20 dollars.
This TV has: RCA A/V inputs cable input A remote A screen that shows images
In all seriousness though, the image quality is great and the TV is in perfect working order. I am getting rid of it because I am moving back to LA. nightstand - $5 (Murray Hill) Reply to: sale-697890602@craigslist.org Date: 2008-05-28, 2:41AM EDT
Basically what the title says. This is a nightstand and it's only 5 bux. It's in great condition and gets the job done... and it costs less than an extra value meal at McDonald's. For perspective, an extra value meal does not have a drawer to store items inside. IN YO FACE VALUE MEAL. This is just one of the many reasons why you should buy my nightstand. That and I am moving to LA in 5 days and need to get rid of it. Maybe I should change the body of the ad into something more catchy, such as a rap verse.
| So I'm interviewing for jobs in both NY and LA and I'm torn. If I get offers from both places I don't know where to pick. On one hand, I love what NY has to offer and I feel like I just got here. On the other hand, most of my good friends and my entire family is back in LA. Of course I could only get an offer in one place and then my decision would be a lot easier. Xanga friends help me out. Tell me why I should choose LA or NY. ("Because I don't want to see your ugly face in NY anymore" does not count as an answer.)

| Here's a test. Read the headlines below, and tell me what newspaper you think they came from:
18-wheeler falls off ramp onto car Newborn falls through train toilet onto tracks Bees attack pair as TV station tapes it 'Sleazy outcome' from TV show confessions 'Dumb as bricks' robbers target biker meeting House full of feces, filth may be leveled Teen suspended for selling fancy sammies Bill Gates sets up his own LinkedIn profile Treasure hunters dig for Hitler's gold 'Doomsday' seed vault opens in Norway Watch a swimsuit model get her body painted
If you guessed "National Enquirer" or "Star" you would probably be in the majority. But no, these are in fact headlines from www.cnn.com right at this very moment. The top 6 in fact are considered so important that they appear at the top of the page. I remember as a kid, when the news came on, I was bored. But, at least it was about actual important stuff, like the toppling of the Berlin wall. Now everytime I read the news it's like watching an episode of that show where they show horrible things happening to people, what's it called, "MAXX"?, mixed with Access Hollywood.
My favorite headline is the last one. It's like, they got lazy and couldn't think of something sensational or controversial to write and were like, "ok hmm what to write.... i know, swimsuit model body painting! yup thaaat's good enough" *patting self on back*. If it were me though, I would have gone with "Swimsuit model body painting incites outrage in Muslim extremist groups: 'There will be more blood ' (click to view video)" C'mon cnn.com, at least give me 50% real news. I mean, I probably won't read it, but at least it will make me happy to know it's there. And by real news, I don't mean the latest "Hilary says Obama smells like Soul Glo, Obama camp furious" type of news.
So who's to blame for the ridiculous state of journalism these days? A lot of people would blame the media but actually it's us. The 20-30 year olds who get their news off the internet. We're the ones that visit break.com daily to look at the latest "double backflip off roof ends badly" video and then go to tmz.com, or perezhilton.com to read "Britney forgets children in Burger King bathroom, crotch shots after the jump". These sites are being propelled to record profit levels while real news sources such as the NY and LAtimes are having to cut staff just to stay in business. The sites that cave in to the ADD shock hungry crowd like cnn.com and fox news are the ones that manage to ride the wave into profitability.
So what can be done about the downward spiral of journalistic integrity? I don't know, I'm no guru, but maybe we should buy a newspaper once in a while, and no People and Us Weekly don't count. And while you're at it, read a book son!

Now if you'll excuse me, it's time for my daily visit to http://icanhascheezburger.com
